Rene du Preez ~ Independent Midwife

“The greatest privilege of a human life is to become midwife to the birth of a soul”

About

My journey into midwifery began in my final year at university when we were provided with the opportunity to spend time at the Genesis midwifery facility. On the day I met some of the young mothers to be and I realized being a midwife is my calling. Feeling and wanting to make a difference for other women, I decided to further my education in women’s health and mother-baby care. I completed an B.CUR – Bachelor of Curationis degree in nursing at Northwest University Potchefstroom in 2012 and then started practicing nursing at Parys Hospital as part of my community service year.  I started my professional career as a midwife in Witbank Life Cosmos Hospital for a period of 2 years. Over the next 2 years, I gained a great deal of experience working with a diverse group of women, attending over 200 births, and managing a variety of clinical situations. After gaining the required experience I was offered the opportunity to further my career at the Genesis clinic which is a midwife led facility. As time went on, it became clear to me that I could better serve women and babies in the capacity of a private midwife, as I could commence a journey and build relationships and trust with the families, and complete the magical journey with them. I feel absolutely grateful that I am able to provide the type of holistic, family centered midwifery care that I have always dreamed of.
