Baby Wise Antenatal Course @ Genesis Maternity Clinic
Nov 14 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

The Antenatal Classes are comprised of 4 classes per course and cover the topics of labour and birth and what to expect after the birth as well as practical breastfeeding advice. The classes are relaxed, interactive and relevant to the fantastic care you will receive at Genesis Maternity Clinic.  Antenatal care is an essential part of pregnancy and should start as soon as you find out you’re expecting. Having a healthy pregnancy is one of the best ways to promote a healthy birth. Attending antenatal classes will give you and your partner an opportunity to ask questions you don’t always remember at your regular pregnancy check-ups, and you’ll meet other expecting parents and make new friends.  Antenatal classes can also give partners an opportunity to understand the whole process of pregnancy, birth and early parenting. Many people find their confidence levels are increased after attending a course, which in itself makes both birth and parenting an easier prospect.

Classes roll over into the next session, therefore you do not need to only start with the first class, as long as you attend all 4 sessions.

The course outline is as follows:

Week 1: Natural birth and pain relief

Week 2: Caesarean section and parenting

Week 3: Breastfeeding

Week 4: Baby Care

Costs:

R1200 per couple for all 4 classes. Clients need to pay cash when starting and claim from their medical aid. Medical aids will reimburse according to the plan you are on.

HypnoBirthing Antenatal Course @ Linden
Nov 14 @ 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm

What HypnoBirthing is and how it works:

The HypnoBirthing Childbirth method is as much a philosophy of birth as it is a technique for achieving a satisfying, relaxing, and stress-free method of birthing.   HypnoBirthing teaches you and your partner to call upon your body’s own natural relaxant, thereby lessening, even eliminating, discomfort and the need for medication. When a woman is properly prepared for childbirth and when mind and body are in harmony, nature is free to function in the same well designed manner that it does with all other creatures.

What you will learn:

  • How achieve a safer, easier and more comfortable birth.
  • How to explode the myth that pain is a necessary accompaniment to labour.
  • What is wrong with the concept of labour as it exists with most other childbirth methods.
  • Techniques to achieve deep relaxation in order to help you eliminate the Fear-Tension-Pain Syndrome.
  • How your body is naturally designed to conceive, nurture and birth your baby with ease and comfort.
  • How to create your body’s own natural relaxant, the only safe labour enhancement.
  • Natural ways to bring your body into labour without artificial, chemical induction.
  • How you and your partner can create a birthing environment that is calm, serene and joyful, rather than tense and stressful.
  • Gentle birthing techniques that allow you to breathe your baby into the world.
  • Using your natural birthing instincts to birth your baby in a way that mirrors the way that nature intended.

Homoeopath @ Genesis Maternity Clinic
Nov 15 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Pregnancy and childbirth is a profound and unique time in a woman’s life, a time of evolution when she blossoms into motherhood, and the family is born. Homoeopathy offers the birthing women a gentle, yet powerful, support to overcome many challenges along the way.

During pregnancy homeopathic treatment can help with problems such as anaemia, anxiety, breech position baby, morning sickness, constipation, diarrhoea, headaches, piles, sinusitis, coughs and colds, heartburn, backache, thrush, mood swings and exhaustion.

In labour, there are many effective remedies that can help deal with possible problems during childbirth such as pain, prolonged labour with a slow dilating cervix and exhaustion. Homoeopathy can also help induce labour and change the baby into a better birthing position.

After the birth, your body goes through a series of physical, emotional and hormonal changes. Homeopathy can help rebalance the body on all levels and promote swift healing after the delivery. For example after-pains, bruising, breastfeeding difficulties, sleep problems and post-natal depression.

Dr Candice Barnard also offers First Aid Homeopathic Courses for use in the home. Please view the calendar for dates fro this insightful workshop.

Ultrasound Scans @ Genesis Maternity Clinic
Nov 15 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Maryke Kilian performs ultrasound scans ranging from early pregnancy scan to 2D and 4D scans at Genesis Clinic. The procedure is carried out in a dimly lit room so the sonographer is able to get good images of your baby. The sonographer will put ultrasound gel on your stomach and tuck tissue paper around your clothing to protect it from the gel. The gel makes sure there is good contact between the machine and your skin.

The sonographer passes a handheld device called a probe over your skin. It is this probe that sends out ultrasound waves and picks them up when they bounce back. A black and white picture of the baby will appear on the ultrasound screen. The sonographer will carefully examine your baby’s body. Having the scan does not hurt, but the sonographer may need to apply slight pressure to get the best views of the baby.

Massage Treatments for pregnancy

Women can begin massage therapy at any point in their pregnancy – during the first, second, or third trimester. Many facilities will refuse to offer massage to a woman who is still in her first trimester because of the increased risk for miscarriage associated with the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
With that said, Reflexology treatments can be done at any point during pregnancy. The best position for a pregnant woman during massage is side-lying.  Tables that provide a hole in which the uterus can fit may not be reliable and can still apply pressure to the abdomen, or allow the abdomen to dangle, causing uncomfortable stretching of the uterine ligaments.

Prenatal Yoga @ Genesis Maternity Clinic
Nov 15 @ 6:00 pm – 7:15 pm

Recommended by most doctors and midwives, prenatal yoga offers a multitude of benefits to both mother and baby throughout pregnancy, during birth and beyond.

 Benefits of Pregnancy Yoga

  • Joint exercises – perfect for poor circulation, swelling/water retention and excellent to improve mobility. Also prepares the body for squatting and other birthing positions.
  • Gentle Stretches and strong postures – maintains supple and toned muscles. Builds strength.
  • Breathing – balances the autonomic nervous system which regulates the major systems of the body and controls hormonal secretions. Deep breathing increases the intake of oxygen to both mother and baby. ‘Birthing breaths’ aid in the preparation for a calm birthing.
  • Yoga Nidra – During this relaxation technique one gains an abundance of energy from gaining the equivalent of 2 hours deep sleep in just 20 minutes! Yoga Nidra  also regulates fluctuating blood pressure and  promotes inner communication between you and your child, as well as assisting in the release of any impressions associated with the fear of birthing.
  • In addition, by developing a deeper awareness of your body, a powerful connection between a mother and her child is established.
