I believe that it is every woman’s right to have the birth of her choice with caregivers that will help her to reach her goal.
I am a midwife, wife and mom to four beautiful kids. I had all four my babies naturally with midwives, so I did practice what I preach in my own life. I do believe that if you are planning to have a natural birth, midwifery lead care is the way to go for a professional yet personally tailored service.
As a midwife I take the time to get to know my client in an individual capacity instead of my client’s just being a number. This ensures a trust relationship between caregiver and client were your client will know that you have her and her baby’s best interest at heart and that they will trust you when suggestions are made throughout the labour process.
I qualified at the University of Johannesburg in 2003 with a Degree in Nursing. After qualifying I worked at Rahima Moosa Hospital in the Neonatal High Care unit for 6 Months at which Stage I transferred to Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital to work in the maternity ward. I stayed at Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital for 2 and half years and then decided to further my midwifery career in the private sector.
I worked at Linkwood Maternity Hospital for 2 years at which time I also did work with an Independent midwife on a part time basis.
In 2009 I moved over to Genesis Clinic working as a staff midwife. I started a private practice a year in to working at Genesis, but gave that up after approximately two years as it was getting a bit head to juggle work and my private life, while still being a full time employee at Genesis.
In 2016 I decided to take the plunge and resign from Genesis to pursue full time private practice.
I feel like I have really found my spot in this world now and am thoroughly enjoying my new path in life as an Independent midwife.
I have in this last year and a half found that I have a real passion for assisting clients with VBAC’s. It is at times very challenging but so satisfying when you accomplish that beautiful natural birth after your client had been convinced in a previous pregnancy that she could not have a natural birth.
What I believe
I believe that every pregnant woman should be afforded the opportunity to go in to labour spontaneously and to have a trial of labour. C-sections are there for a reason and if we have to birth our babies that way so be it, but we should at least be given the chance first to try for a normal delivery.
