Genesis Clinic Upstairs Unit

Genesis Clinic is happy to announce that we now have a second unit at our beautiful Saxonwold active birth hospital. This unit has been specifically designed to make gentle birth accessible to women who have budget constraints or are on low-cost / restricted medical aids. It has the following differences to our existing downstairs unit:

Our lovely new ward has been developed to make gentle birth available to women on network restricted medical aids or those that have financial constraints. As such, any client on a full, unlimited medical aid, or who has a combined household income in excess of R15 000 per month, will NOT qualify to use this service. Private clients will need to undergo a financial application, supplying their proof of income as well as a motivation when first visiting the Genesis ante-natal clinic. You will need to come into the clinic and apply with the necessary forms.

The fees for birthing your baby in the upstairs ward are lower than our original Genesis offering. This is because the ward operates with the following differences:

  • Moms will labour and deliver in a private room, sharing with one other mom, one hour post birth.
  • Moms will not have the choice of one particular midwife, but will be delivered by the Genesis staff midwife on duty.
  • In case of an emergency caesearean, moms will be attended to by the obstetrician on call.
  • They will have no choice of doctors.
  • Moms will not receive the full Genesis care package, but will be supplied with one pack of maternity pads , one pack of newborn nappies, a small pack of wipes and a small bottle of surgical spirits.
  • Antenatal costs for each consult is R160.
