“ Remember, that reducing stress and taking time out is the kindest thing you can do for yourself as well as your baby. ”

As a registered Therapeutic Reflexologist specialising in maternity, a birth Doula and Infant Massage Instructor, I am passionately dedicated to helping women achieve and maintain health and wellness using reflexology, lifestyle and good nutritional advise, which will support them through-out their pregnancy and beyond.

Maintaining optimal health and wellness on both a physical and emotional level, at this beautifully fragile time, is vital to a healthy pregnancy and development of the baby as it grows inside of you.  It has a significant impact on your labour and outcome of your birth.

How does Maternity Reflexology support you and your baby?

Reflexology for Inducing Labour:

Reflexology is a wonderful, non-chemical therapy that assists in inducing labour and strengthens contractions naturally and gently, if the body is ready. It stimulates your hormone producing glands as well as the reproductive organs, encouraging activity in these areas.  But not only does it stimulate these functional glands and organs, it also assists in relaxing and calming anxiety and fear, the two emotions that are contra-indicative of going into labour.  Reflexology flushes out the excess stress hormones allowing then, the free flow of oxytocin, our labour inducing hormone.

And still it gets better; often it has only to do with a mass congestion of toxins sitting in our bodies that is inhibiting communication between the functional glands (pituitary gland) and organs (uterus and cervix). The messages are just not getting through.  The detox effect of reflexology is immediate thus opening up the path of communication stimulating the onset of labour.

This is why one treatment to induce labour is sometimes not enough. Two or, seldom, three may be needed, as we never know what may be stalling the process.

Additional therapies offered:

Together with the “Induction Reflexology” the following natural therapies are applied during the treatment to stimulate uterine activities and relax the mother-to-be:

  • Obstetric Acupressure
  • Aromatherapy
  • Balancing and opening massage
  • Pelvic floor release
  • Cupping and Moxa
  • Spinning Babies Techniques (ensures optimal faetal positioning and available during treatments from 36 weeks of pregnancy if the baby is not lying in the correct position)

During Pregnancy:

Many changes take place in your body during pregnancy, on multiple levels; hormonal, emotional, physiological and metabolic. These changes ensure that you and your unborn baby receive adequate nutrition and oxygen, that the pregnancy is sustained by your body and that toxins are effectively eliminated. These changes are often accompanied by a wide range of unwelcome symptoms. In addition to offering numerous benefits during pregnancy, reflexology can provide much relief from these symptoms, which may include:

  • Morning sickness
  • Nausea
  • High blood pressure
  • Oedema (fluid retention)
  • Constipation
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Muscle cramping or fatigue
  • Heartburn and indigestion
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Insomnia
  • Back ache
  • Sciatica (pains down back of legs)
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Carpel Tunnel Syndrome
  • Aneamia
  • Hormonal regulation
  • Migraines
  • Nose bleeds
  • Pelvic pain

After Pregnancy:

Following the birth of your baby, reflexology is the ultimate nurturing tool to help you find yourself again. Tremendous changes have taken place, physically and emotionally, over the last 40 weeks and you may well feel overwhelmed and anxious. Together with little or no sleep, the extreme hormonal changes that take place in your body may lead to “baby blues” or even postnatal depression.

Reflexology provides that much needed time for relaxation, calmness, self-nurturing and gentle support to get you through those first few weeks of being a new mother, while assisting your body to re-balance. At this pivotal time, reflexology can help in the following ways:

  • Stimulates deep relaxation
  • Relieves fatigue
  • Promotes lymphatic drainage
  • Improves hormone balance
  • Relieves anxiety
  • Increases milk supply
  • Assists with post-operative healing
  • Reduces post natal depression
