Choosing your practitioner
When you birth at Genesis Clinic, your primary caregiver will be a private midwife who has seen you during your pregnancy. Click here for a list of private midwives in Johannesburg.
When you have met with your midwife, she will refer you to one of the ob/gyns who either operate from or support Genesis Clinic. Click here for a list of ob/gyns working with Genesis Clinic. This doctor will be you back-up practitioner.

Â

Â
Booking in
-
This must please be done by 32 weeks of pregnancy.
-
Bookings are done at our reception, where you will be required to pay a booking in fee and complete the necessary forms and medical history
-
Medical aid clients will have to pay a booking in fee of R 800 and supply us with an authorization number from their medical aid by 36 weeks of pregnancy.
-
Mothers with no medical coverage will be required to pay R19 500Â by their 36th week of pregnancy. You are welcome to put this amount on a credit card or provide some form of acceptable surity in its place. Following a normal delivery, the balance will be refunded to you. Refunds are done on the 15th of every month.
-
Arrangements must be made to have baby on a medical aid immediately following birth.

What do I need to bring?
Genesis Clinic has tried to provide you with as many of the necessary supplies for your birth experience, as possible. Towels are provided as well as salt for water births and linen savers. The bar fridge in your room will be stocked with two bottles of water and fruit juice.
Mom will receive a beautiful care package on admission containing the following items:
Â
Â
Moms will need to bring:
Â
-
clothing for yourself - a few loose tee-shirts to labour in are usually a good idea
-
a comfy bra, bikini or tank top for labouring in water
-
your toiletries - shampoo, facewash, toothbrush etc
-
clothes for your newborn
-
three blankets and a towel for baby
-
facecloths to use in labour
-
music (your room has a cd player) and candles if desired
-
some snacks and additional drinks
-
your camera and video camara - don't forget batteries and chargers!
-
cell phone chargers
-
a bag for dad with clothes, toiletries etc.
Â
Some women find it useful to bring a few special objects from home - perhaps a photograph, a religeous item, even a favourite pillow or cushion. This can help you to feel comfortable and at home and give you something to focus on during labour.
Well baby
It is customary for each newborn to be checked by a paediatrician before going home. One of the paediatricians working with Genesis Clinic will be on site each day to examine all of our new arrivals. Please note that this visit is for your own cost if baby is not covered by a medical aid. A fee of R 750 will be added to your account if you see the paediatrician.
There will be a well baby clinic operating from Genesis Clinic run by Claire Bracher, where moms can return for weigh-ins and immunizations. Claire is also a qualified lactation consultant who can be of assistance with breastfeeding issues.
Post natal care
Genesis Clinic works with a strong team of doulas and home visits can be arranged in the weeks or months following your birth for support or assistance.Â
Genesis Clinic is not only about delivering babies. We also aim to offer moms-to-be all manner of services and to be a hub for all things preggie, birth and baby, creating a community for the women who come here. We have become a base for a host of exceptional practitioners and professionals offering all sorts of services for pregnant women and new mothers.
